In recent years, the scale of China's automobile exports has been expanding and industrial transformation has been accelerating, in which new energy vehicles have performed particularly well, becoming the main source of contribution to the incremental volume of automobile exports. At the same time, the lack of export space, high transportation costs and other logistics supply chain problems have become an urgent problem for Chinese automobile enterprises in globalization.
In the face of logistics bottlenecks in automobile exports, COSCO Shipping has joined hands with Taicang Port Area to build a vehicle export base, which will help "Chinese cars" speed up going to the sea and travel around the world, and escort Chinese automobile enterprises to shine on the world stage.
Taicang Port has become an important node for automobile water-to-water transshipment.
At present, Suzhou is fully promoting the construction of new energy automobile industry innovation cluster, Suzhou 1057 automobile industry chain above-scale enterprise gross output value has nearly 522 billion yuan, new energy output value accounted for 40%. As the largest river port in China, Taicang Port Area of Suzhou Port is not only the main channel for containers to go out to the sea in Suzhou and Jiangsu, but also the main gateway to the Yangtze River Economic Belt. At the same time, the unique location advantage of the confluence of the river and the sea makes Taicang Port Area become an important node for undertaking water-to-water transshipment of automobiles in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and also a logistics program of "end-to-end service of commodity vehicles" for automobile enterprises in the hinterland of the Yangtze River Delta.
In order to accelerate the improvement of vehicle logistics supply chain service system, smooth vehicle in and out of the channel, COSCO Shipping Special Transportation and Taicang Port Area to gather cooperation, signed a strategic agreement. "Up to now, COSCO Shipping Special Transport has released 120,000 square meters of automobile-specific operation site at Taicang International Container Terminal in Taicang Port Area, which can meet the monthly demand of 30,000 vehicles export operation. We expect to harden and release another 50,000 square meters of yard next year, which in total can meet the demand for 50,000 vehicle exports per month." Cai Liancai, deputy general manager of COSCO Shipping Special Transportation, said.
Only when the logistics chain runs smoothly can the industry chain be free of worries. COSCO Shipping and Taicang Port District have set up a special class for vehicle export supply chain, launched a digital supply chain construction project for the automotive industry, and strengthened extended services. According to Taicang Customs statistics, from January to June 2023, Taicang Port Area of Suzhou Port completed the export of 172,000 automobiles, an increase of 11.3 times year-on-year; among them, 90,000 new energy automobiles were exported, accounting for 52.3% of the total, which provided strong support for the logistics of domestically produced commercial vehicles and new energy automobiles exported to overseas markets.
